Description

Emmy Noether (1882-1935) was a German mathematician known for her contributions to abstract algebra and theoretical physics. Albert Einstein and others describe her as the most important woman in the history of mathematics.

Mission

The Emmy Noether Awards recognize outstanding young women who aspire to become research scientists in any STEM field. The program provides financial support, mentorship, and networking opportunities to help them pursue research-focused STEM careers.

The Awards: 

  • One Gold Medalist – Up to $75,000 (up to $25,000 per year for three years of a qualified research-based graduate program)

  • Two Silver Medalists – $25,000 each for a qualified research-based graduate program

  • Up to 10 Emmy Noether Scholars – $2,000 upon college enrollment, plus access to a network of young female research scientists and information on internships and STEM opportunities

Requirements:

  • Female high school senior

  • Lives in or goes to school in LA or MS

  • ACT Score of 28 or higher

  • Intends to pursue a research-based STEM graduate degree and career (Ph.D. or M.S. research programs)

Examples of qualifying career aspirations: any laboratory researcher (Ph.D. or M.S. programs), research-focused engineers (such as aerospace or computer engineer programs), research scientists in fields such as biology, chemistry, physics, mathematics, or environmental science.

Eligibility:

PLEASE NOTE: Students planning to pursue clinical or professional healthcare careers — such as physicians (M.D.), physician assistants, nurses (R.N.), dentists, pharmacists, physical or occupational therapists, or veterinarians — are not eligible for this award. The program supports students pursuing research-based STEM graduate degrees only.

If you are selected for this scholarship and later choose to pursue one of the careers listed above, you will no longer be eligible to receive the award.

PLEASE DO NOT APPLY if you intend to pursue a non-research or clinical/medical career path, or non-research career path, as this may take an opportunity away from another qualified student. This program is designed to support students committed to research or academic/faculty career paths.

Since 2000, CFA has been building legacies and improving communities by connecting generous people to the causes they care about. CFA, in partnership with the Joe W. and Dorothy Dorsett Brown Foundation, administers the Emmy Noether Awards Program. The Emmy Noether Awards seek top aspiring female research scientists in any STEM (science, technology, engineering, or math) filed to help realize their potential careers through financial and networking assistance.
